(1) About Beira
Beira is an independent artisanal studio dedicated to the design and production of contemporary glass jewelry and functional objects. Each piece is handmade in small, limited series in the south of Spain using traditional glass techniques, including cutting, kiln-firing, and cold finishing. The slow, manual nature of the process allows for controlled variation, reinforcing the uniqueness of each object and its material integrity. Through a minimalist approach, Beira explores the relationship between color, material, and form. Inspired by the surrounding natural landscape, the work translates organic references into abstract, wearable compositions, positioning glass as a contemporary and expressive
medium.
(2) About The Artist
Irene Reyes leads the creative direction of Beira, focusing on design, metalwork, and kiln-formed glass techniques. A central aspect of her practice is the ongoing research and exploration of kiln-based glass processes, with particular attention to contemporary and innovative techniques. Color occupies a central place in her work, acting as both the origin and structural foundation of each collection. Treated as an active element, color holds memory, evokes emotion, and shapes perception, guiding the evolution of form, rhythm, and material balance. Her practice is rooted in material research and a hands-on approach that investigates color, form, and structure through glass as a contemporary expressive medium.
(3) How I Make
I work glass using kiln casting and kiln fusing techniques, where the material is heated in a regulated kiln to achieve controlled flow or fusion within molds. The kiln phase allows the glass to integrate fully, forming specific volumes and textures inherent to each design. After firing, every piece undergoes coldwork finishing—precision cutting, grinding, and polishing that determine the final form and its interaction with light. Each unique work or small series results from a controlled cycle of heat, programmed cooling, and detailed cold finishing.
(4) Our Approach
Alongside her studio practice, Beira collaborates with a small network of specialized artisans who contribute to specific stages of production, including precision coldworking and finishing processes. These collaborations support a localized, ethical, and small-scale approach while ensuring the material quality and refinement of each piece. Beira operates as a slow studio practice based in the south of Spain, committed to craftsmanship, limited-series production, and the creation of wearable objects that balance artistic exploration with functionality and durability.
